Although that may sound strange, I am very “convinced that my moral values are high laws, and your only option is to obey”. I am also convinced that my values override some “cultural atrocities” and, therefore, are superior to other cultures´ values. To stone adulterers to death, to amputate limbs to thieves, to obligate women to dress humiliating garments, to reject blood transfusions for religious beliefs, etc. are evident manifestations of moral inferiority. Anyway, if someone finds a good reason to downgrade my values and accept those hideous acts, this blog is the best place to express those arguments. I dare to say that the sentence “Cultures do not mix, they clash” is almost true. Human history is full of examples of reciprocal cultural influence. However, I cannot remember any examples of cultural mix. There are examples of domination and imposition of one culture over other, like the British rule of India or the Spanish conquest of South America, but I cannot remember any example of cultural alliance. In somehow I go along with Philip Atkinson´s opinion: “Multiculturalism is a denial of the simple truth that cultures clash” (http://ourcivilisation.com/mltcult.htm). What is more, since I truly believe that my culture surpass the majority of cultures in collision with it, I am very convinced that multiculturalism is often a setback to the individuals rights enhancement.
Other times I abhor my culture, but in that situations I do not see multiculturalism more attractive either.
